| McKay Cross Country
When, Where, and What?
Cross Country takes place in the Fall. Practice is at 2:45 every day at McKay Park (by the baseball field). The season begins in September and runs through early to mid-November. The more serious runners train regularly throughout the summer in preparation, but there is a place for everyone, no matter the level of fitness. It is one of the few sports where the better athletes actually get less “playing time.”
Cross Country races are mostly 5k (3.1 miles) in distance, with some JV races being the shorter 3k course. Courses contain a variety of surfaces and conditions, including trails, hills, sand, pavement, and mud! Most people that try it become addicted to the challenge and the slop, but there are many who run cross country simply as conditioning for other sports. Whatever your goals, we welcome you to give it a shot!
