Concert Choir

Concert Choir
Grade: 10 and above               Length: One year/ two credits
Concert Choir is McKay’s most advanced choir.  Membership is by audition and opens to students with previous choral experience, basic musical knowledge and skills, basic vocal production skills and developed aural skills.  Continued emphasis will be given to developing each singer’s vocal instrument, technique in breath control, freedom of tone production, extension of range, clarity of diction, expressive singing, accurate pitch and choral development.  Students will learn more advanced musical written and aural skills and be given the tools to become independent sight-readers.  The choir will be introduced to a wide range of styles, languages, and historical periods of repertoire, and learn to critically appreciate the historical and cultural context of the music.  Individual students can attain to leadership positions within the choir.  In addition to formal concerts, the Concert Choir often performs for community functions and at several choral festivals.
